Lake Joseph has a rich and storied history that spans centuries. The lake and surrounding area were originally inhabited by various First Nations tribes, who fished and hunted in the area. In the 1800s, the region became popular among wealthy families from Toronto, who built summer homes and resorts on the shores of the lake. First Nations & Early Settlers
The first inhabitants of the Lake Joseph area were the Anishinaabe people, who lived along the shores of the lake and fished in its clear waters. In the 1700s, the Ojibwe people began to migrate into the region and established themselves in the area. They were followed by the Huron-Wendat people, who had been displaced from their traditional territories by the French and British in the 1600s.
